Description:
This gear wheel is a common weak point on the mechanical odometer, but replacing it is relatively simple. Odometer gears that no longer work can be repaired quickly and accurately.
In addition to this ZR10, the 1st gear wheel on the odometer roller also often breaks. It can then be easily twisted on the shaft. Replacing both gears is recommended and saves having to dismantle them again.
The right roller gear for the BMW up to -'02 is the so-called D1,3 roller gear.

The gear wheel is made of tough, elastic thermoplastic and is dimensionally accurate and of high quality thanks to complex injection molding technology. Printed gears, on the other hand, often have residual stresses and heat distortion, a very rough surface and are less strong.

We advise against buying other used speedometers, it is only a matter of time before the gear wheel breaks here too. It is better to save double the cost and effort and replace the gear wheel. This way you will still have the original mileage.

If you disassemble the speedometer in advance, please note that the shaft of the speedometer needle is very sensitive. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it anticlockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
