Porsche 356 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 356 is Porsche's first production model, of which more than 76,000 cars were built over a 17-year production period (1948 to 1965). Originally planned as a mid-engined roadster under the prototype designation 356/1, the car went into production with a modified frame and rear engine. From 1950, the Porsche 356 was manufactured in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The model's design came from Erwin Komenda, who had already been involved in the development of the VW Beetle, as a result of which the first 356 models obtained many production parts from VW. These included the transmission, brakes, front and rear axles and steering.

Engine and prices

The Type 356 underwent constant improvements during its production period, including the engine, which was based on the VW original. The patented front crank axle and the rear swing axle with torsion bar springs guided by longitudinal shear struts were considered typical features and were retained for this reason.

The Porsche 356 Carrera released in the racing versions was able to impress with an all-new 1.5-liter kingshaft engine with four overhead camshafts. The engine designed by Ernst Fuhrmann, which was also given the name Fuhrmann engine, initially had an output of 100 hp in the Carrera, and later with the 2-liter displacement version 185 hp in the Type 904 GTS.

The Porsche 356 was built in several model generations throughout its production run, all with the same engine and drivetrain. The model designations ranged from the 356 Urmodell, through 356 A, 356 B to the 356 C model that represents the last generation of the 356. The models were built as coupe, convertible, roadster and speedster. Starting with the Speedster, the Convertible D was also offered, which was distinguished from the Speedster by a higher windshield, a soft top with a larger rear window, crank windows and upholstered seats instead of bucket seats. Apart from the standard versions, sports versions also came onto the market. The price development for the 356 is rising, which is why a purchase consultation is currently suggested. In addition, many replica versions with high prices also exist on the market.
