Porsche 912 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 912 is a sports car that was produced as an entry-level model from 1965 to 1969. The model replaced the Porsche 356 after the 356 was built parallel to the Porsche 911 between 1964 and 1965. The Porsche 912 was intended to be a simplified version of the 911, so that it was kept much simpler in many areas such as the equipment. As an example only three instead of the usual five round instruments were offered to realize the price for customers for whom the 911 was too expensive. According to this, the buyers of a Porsche 912 had to do without a watch in the instrument cluster, but could order it in addition. This and many other savings in market introduction meant that the Porsche 912 could be offered for about 16,000 DM and was thus over 5000 DM cheaper than the 911. Furthermore, the consumption of the 912 was significantly lower than that of the 911.

Motor and prices

In the years 1965 to 1969, the vehicle also received minor, but also major modifications. The number of green instruments was increased to five in 1967, and in 1968 white instruments similar to those of the 911 followed. In 1968 white fittings were added, which were similar to those of the 911. An optional five-speed gearbox, the Targa version with folding rear window, the widening of the wheelbase and the fender, as well as the modernization of the interior were also added.

In model year 1976, outside the production period of the basic model, the portfolio was expanded to include the Porsche 912 E, which was produced exclusively for the US market. The reasons for this were the discontinuation of production of the VW-Porsche 914 and the Porsche 924, which was not yet offered in the U.S. The idea of bringing another model onto the market had been around for some time, but the 911 was to be taken into consideration. Therefore the 912 E was only offered in the USA as a replacement car. The 912 E was based on the 911 G-model and had some similarities like the galvanized body.
