Porsche 928 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 928 was produced from 1977 to 1995 and is a Gran Turismo car with V8 front engine and rear wheel drive. The sports car with the transaxle drive was considered the top model that was to replace the Porsche 911. Just like most Porsche models of the time, the body of the 928 was custom designed by Harm Lagaay.

Motor and prices

Instead of the air-cooled 911 engine in the rear, a water-cooled eight-cylinder front engine was provided. The transaxle concept, which connects the front engine with the rear drive axle, was also used in the Porsche 924 and 944. The V8 engine with a 90 cylinder bank angle was a completely new development. The block and the cylinder blocks were made of an aluminum-silicon alloy and the pistons ran directly on the cylinder surface without liners. One camshaft per row of cylinders was driven by a toothed belt and the valves were actuated by a cup tappet. The engine and transmission were connected by a rigid tube with an inner shaft, the construction of which offered a higher noise comfort compared to contemporary transaxle models.

The chassis of the 928 increases driving safety by preventing excessive noise. This could be realized by a calculated yielding of the rubber bearings of the handlebars. The axle is also known as „Weissach axle“. Despite the development in Weissach, the name for the axle is also known as „Angle-adjusting, self-stabilising compensation characteristic“ stand.

The body shape of the Porsche 928 was very modern in its time with the round folding headlights and the enormously rounded collision-elastic rear end and was considered timeless in the years of its production, so that the design remained almost unchanged until 1995. The retracted C-shape at the rear, as well as the popular rear windows were special features of the 928, which polarized the presentation. In the years that followed, the design served as an inspiration for other car manufacturers' models, such as the 1983 Zagato Zeta 6 and the Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow.
