Porsche 944 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 944 is the successor to the Porsche 924 and is based on the 924 Carrera. To remedy the image problem of the 924, Porsche now developed a sports car with a "real" Porsche engine and produced most of it at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm from 1981 to 1991.

The Porsche 944 was available in 944, 944S, 944S2, 944 Turbo and 944 Turbo S versions, which differed in engine power, equipment and price. Just like the 924, the 944 featured the transaxle drivetrain, which provided balanced weight distribution, resulting in a neutral ride and good traction.

Engine and prices

The base model of the Porsche 944 is equipped with a 2479 cc inline four-cylinder engine and reaches its highest torque of 205 Nm at a speed of 3000 rpm. The engine's peak output of 163 hp is produced at 5800 rpm.

Changes to the body compared to the 924 had already been made to the 924 Carrera, which the 944 was based on. The front fenders were already wider, but the rear ones were still plastic, so these were finally integrated into the body on the 944. The distinctive folding headlights and the elevating roof were adopted.

The interior of the 944 has a spacious trunk due to the front-positioned engine, but also good seating comfort for the driver and front passenger. The two rear seats, on the other hand, are more suitable only for small children. The car's large, glass tailgate opens wide for maximum transport capacity and can also be opened from inside the car.

The success of the base model was largely based on the constant adjustments made during its construction. For example, from 1985 the catalytic converter was available, which had not previously been installed, but was pre-fitted in models without shoring. Due to the reduced power to 150 hp with catalytic converter, many 944 owners decided against the retrofit. In 1987, the model's power was increased with a catalytic converter, and later in 1988, the engine was heavily revised to produce 165 horsepower. The price trend for the 944 is increasing, which is why a buying advice is currently suggested.
