Porsche 964 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 964 is the successor of the G-model and was produced from 1989 to 1994, because the car manufacturer needed an urgent model change after 15 years of production of the Porsche 911. Since at that time not only the driving performance but also the comfort played an important role for the customers and the technology of the 911 was based on that of the 1960s, Porsche wanted to offer a modern and marketable model. The sales designation Porsche 911 remained despite many innovations, as the term is too strongly associated with the brand. The Porsche 964 was very successful in sales and is still in great demand on the used car market today.

Motor and prices

The Porsche 964, which is based on a large technical know-how, can convince with many technical solutions, which did not exist with the 911. These include, among other things, all-wheel drive in series production, a new light-alloy chassis, power steering and anti-lock braking system. The new 3.6-liter engine also had a dual ignition with knock control and a controlled three-way catalytic converter.

The model of the Porsche 964 was the biggest revision of the body shape of the 911 since the G-model. The newer body shape had a better structural design and, together with the full fairing, provided a drag coefficient of 0.32, which was unmatched by any other Porsche 911 model. Therefore the 964 with 250 HP reached a top speed of 260 km/h, which only the 50 HP Porsche 911 Turbo (Type 930) from the old G-model series reached until then. Especially noteworthy is the automatically extending rear spoiler at a speed of 80 km/h for better aerodynamics and engine cooling.

Initially the model was only available as Carrera 4 with four-wheel drive, later as Carrera 2 with rear-wheel drive. Both versions were produced in the versions coupé, convertible and Targa offered.

The engine of the 964 was still the proven air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine. However, this engine was further developed with dual ignition and an improved DME electronic engine management system. Compared to the earlier 3.2-liter engine, the fuel consumption of the newer engine was significantly reduced.

In the interior the 964 differs from its predecessor only in details. The new center console with the short shift lever is striking, as are the rear-illuminated instruments, where the symbols only appear when the driver needs them. The price of the 964 is on the rise, which is why it is currently recommended to buy it.
