Porsche Boxster 986 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche Boxster is a roadster was first presented at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993 and has been in production since 1996. As Porsche was in a financial crisis in the early 1990s and at that time a real roadster boom broke out due to the Mazda MX-5, it was decided to develop a mid-engine roadster. The roadster with the boxer engine was thus given the name Boxster.

Motor and prices

The first Porsche Boxster with the internal designation Porsche 986 was equipped with a water-cooled 2.5 liter six-cylinder engine and had a power of 204 hp. The Boxster contained many of the components of the Porsche 996, which was developed at the same time and was released a year later, so that Porsche received a lot of criticism for lack of differentiation. Nevertheless new customers could be won by the entrance price of 76 500 DM and successful years started for the car manufacturer.

Despite the concept of a roadster, the Porsche Boxster offered a relatively large amount of space, which set it apart from the competition. Due to the mid-engine, both front and rear trunk could be realized and the top was placed in a top box above the engine.

Since 1997 the Boxster models have been partly produced in Finland by Valmet Automotive, where finally in 2001 almost 23,000 out of a total of 28,000 models were produced. In the entire period from 1997 to 2004 a total of 110,000 Boxster 986 models were produced at the plant in Finland. The chassis number still allows to trace where the vehicle was produced: A U for Uusikaupunki (Finnish production location) or S for Stuttgart in front of the six-digit number indicates the production location.

At the turn of the millennium, the first generation of the Boxster was fitted with an enlarged engine, which from then on had a displacement of 2.7 liters and a power output of 220 hp. The series was extended by the Boxster S with 3.2-liter engine and 252 hp. The two models of the 986 were given a further facelift before switching to the 987, and performance was increased thanks to Motronic and VarioCam. The output of the Boxster rose to 228 bhp and that of the Boxster S to 260 bhp.
