Porsche 911 G model spare parts

Technical data

The G series of the Porsche 911 was produced from 1973 to 1989, each model year was internally designated by a successive letter, so strictly speaking only the 1974 model year can be called a G model, however, G model has long been considered a nickname for the second generation 911.

These models differ fundamentally in the body to the Porsche Urmodell. Characteristic of the G-model is the larger bumper and front turn signals on the bumper, which were positioned on the fender of the earlier model. New legislation in the U.S., which required bumpers and hydraulic impact absorbers to be positioned higher for a damage-free impact at 8 km/h, led to significant differences between the U.S. model and European cars. On models not intended for U.S. export, the impact absorbers were replaced with less expensive impact tubes. Due to the wrinkle-like plastic transitions between the bumper and body, the G model was also referred to as the "Bellows Porsche".

Engine and prices

Compared to Porsche Ur models, the interior remained almost unchanged. Only the more comfortable seats, which were also available with heated seats, as well as an electric sunroof and power windows made the difference there. In 1975, the new 911 Turbo was available, which, thanks to its 3-liter turbocharged engine, was the fastest German production car of its time, with a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Three years later, the car was equipped with a 3.3-liter engine and intercooler, which took the 911 Turbo to 260 km/h.

Until 1982, the Neunelfer was initially available only as a Targa and Coupé due to the legislature in the United States. The subsequent Porsche 911 SC Cabriolet was built a total of 4277 times, of which over 40% were sold in the USA. The successor models of the Porsche 911 G series were the 964 and 993 models. The price trend for the 911 G is increasing, which is why a purchase recommendation is currently suggested.
