Porsche 993 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 993 is the successor to the Porsche 964 and was the last model of the Porsche 911 with air-cooled engine. The Porsche 993 was available in Targa, Carrera and Turbo versions. The models of the 993 produced from 1993-1998 range from 272 hp and 286 hp of the Carrera and Targa models, respectively, to 408 hp for the Turbo model.

The Porsche 993 came with 20 mm wider rear tires, a more powerful brake system and improved anti-lock brakes. Furthermore, the engine was equipped with maintenance-free valve timing with hydro tappets and central locking and immobilizer with alarm were also standard. The 993 is considered the best and most sophisticated 911 with an air-cooled engine. Due to its low maintenance costs, it is considered extremely reliable and enjoys a special position among enthusiasts as the last 911 with air cooling.

Engine and prices

The focus of the 993's revised body was on the bumpers, which were more integrated into the body to make the design more elegant. Here, chief designer Harm Lagaay drew heavily on the shape of the original model. The rear end was given greater emphasis by the beveled light strip and the modified fenders. However, the rear wheels were heated up so much by the exhaust silencers behind them that tire wear sometimes occurred early. Nevertheless, the design remained largely unchanged.

In the interior, the 993 was only minimally changed. The arrangement of the round instruments with transmitted light technology, as well as seats and center console were taken from the Porsche 964. The most noticeable change here was the redesigned steering wheel, which appeared more elegant despite the airbag. The door handles were also adapted to the elegant design. In general, a higher level of comfort was directly visible in this model.

With the 993 model, Porsche had reached the limit of what was economically and ecologically feasible in terms of development. Since regulations on exhaust gas cleaning and noise levels could only be met with cost-intensive further developments, the Porsche 993 concept was abandoned and the Porsche 996 with water cooling was developed instead. The price trend for the 993 is rising, which is why a purchase consultation is currently suggested.
