Porsche 996 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 996 was produced from 1997 to 2006 and was the first model in the 911 series with a water-cooled engine. Just like its predecessor, the Porsche 993, the car was designed by Harm Lagaay. However, they differ fundamentally in body shape and interior. In terms of compliance with fuel consumption and emissions regulations in combination with the targeted engine performance, Porsche switched to a six-cylinder boxer engine with water cooling. The engine block has a much more complicated design than the air-cooled engines. Consisting of four parts, the four camshafts are driven together by five chains. At market launch, the 996's engine had a displacement of 3.4 liters and generated 300 hp. Starting with the 2002 model year, the facelift increased the displacement to 3.6 liters, resulting in an output of 320 hp.

With the design, Porsche set itself apart from the classic shape of the Porsche 911. The overall larger sports car had headlights integrated into the fenders, also known as fried egg lights due to their shape. Because of the high degree of similarity to the Boxster, the headlights were replaced in 2002 with differently designed clear-glass headlights. Likewise, the continuous light band at the rear was removed, which was not reintroduced until the 4S model. Otherwise, the 996 models had a look that was intended to emphasize the new driving concept.

The interior was also fundamentally revised. Especially the repositioned instruments, which henceforth had the shape of a semicircle. To improve the clarity of the instruments, the speed was now additionally displayed digitally in the tachometer. The interior was adapted, and the materials of the extra equipment such as leather, aluminum or carbon fiber in particular caused a stir. High comfort and suitability for everyday use were the focus of the Porsche 996 with technical equipment such as ESP, built-in navigation system and automatic climate control. The 996 is regarded as a value-stable, modern classic that continues to impress in everyday use. The successor model to the 996 was the Porsche 997.
