Porsche Boxster 986 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche Boxster is a roadster was first introduced at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993 and has been in production since 1996. Since Porsche was in a financial crisis in the early 1990s and at the time a real roadster boom broke out due to the Mazda MX-5, it was decided to develop a mid-engine roadster. The roadster with the boxer engine was thus given the name Boxster, a combination of the words boxer and roadster.

Engine and prices

The first Porsche Boxster, internally designated Porsche 986, was equipped with a water-cooled 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine and had an output of 204 hp. The Boxster included many components of the Porsche 996, which was developed at the same time and released a year later, so Porsche earned a lot of criticism for its lack of differentiation. Nevertheless, the entry-level price of DM 76,500 won new customers and launched successful years for the carmaker.

Despite the concept of a roadster, the Porsche Boxster offered a relatively large amount of space, which significantly differentiated it from the competition. The mid-engine meant that both front and rear trunks could be realized, and the soft top could be accommodated in a soft top compartment above the engine.

Since 1997, Boxster models were partly produced in Finland by Valmet Automotive, where nearly 23,000 of a total of 28,000 models were finally manufactured in 2001. In the entire years from 1997 to 2004, a full 110 000 Boxster 986s were produced at the plant in Finland. Based on the chassis number, it is still possible today to trace the location where the vehicle was manufactured: A U for Uusikaupunki (Finnish production location) or S for Stuttgart in front of the six-digit number indicates the production location.

The first generation Boxster received an enlarged engine at the turn of the millennium, which from that point on had a displacement of 2.7 liters and an output of 220 hp. The series was expanded to include the Boxster S with a 3.2-liter engine and 252 hp. The two models of the 986 received another facelift and an increase in power thanks to Motronic and VarioCam before the change to the 987. The Boxster's output increased to 228 hp, while that of the Boxster S rose to 260 hp.
