Description:
The dual-mass flywheel decouples the torsional vibrations generated in the engine from the rest of the drive train. It increases driving comfort and prevents damage to the transmission caused by vibrations. It also serves as a contact surface for the clutch disc. When replacing the clutch, pay attention to any scoring or cracks in the flywheel. Tempering colors are a sign that you have been driving for too long with a grinding/slipping clutch.
A worn flywheel causes jerky behavior when engaging the clutch. Vibrations or humming while driving are further indications of defective damping elements.
