Description:
This gear wheel is a common weak point on mechanical speedometers, but replacing it is relatively simple. Odometer gears that no longer work can be repaired quickly and accurately.

Gear selection:
Either the M11 to M25 gearwheels or the VW-specific VW11 or VW12 gearwheels can be installed in the mechanical speedometers at VW:
VW11 = 11 teeth (for mileage speedometers)
VW12 = 12 teeth (for kilometer speedos)

Installation location:
The gear wheel is located at the end of the odometer roller. It is driven by a worm.

Production:
The gear wheel, made of excellent processing quality, is made of tough, elastic thermoplastic and is dimensionally accurate and of high quality thanks to complex injection molding technology. Printed gears, on the other hand, often have residual stresses and heat distortion, a very rough surface and are less strong.

Note:
We advise against buying other used speedometers, it is only a matter of time before the gear wheel breaks here too. It is better to save double the cost and effort and replace the gear wheel. This way you will still have the original mileage.

If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the shaft of the speedometer needle is very sensitive. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it anticlockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
