Description:
Tie rod end joints are subject to wear, which usually starts with a torn boot. Once the grease has been washed out of the tie rod end joint, the ball joint will fail within a few thousand kilometers. At the latest, the defective rubber boots or ball joints will be flagged during the vehicle inspection (TÜV). Depending on the Porsche model, tie rods can consist of two or three main components. These include the tie rod end joint, which is the inner ball joint in front of the steering gear, and the tie rod end at the outer end of the tie rod. Sometimes the tie rod end joint and tie rod end are connected by a separate intermediate tube. Because replacing the tie rod always requires a new wheel alignment with toe adjustment, it is recommended to replace the entire tie rod depending on its condition.
