Brake dust shields protect the brakes from dust, dirt, or fluid ingress. This increases the service life of the individual components of a disc brake. Furthermore, brake dust shields protect temperature-sensitive chassis components from the heat of the brakes when the vehicle is stationary.
Rust, increased thermal stress, or stone chips often lead to damage to brake dust shields. To prevent the failure of safety-relevant chassis or brake system components, a damaged brake dust shield should be replaced promptly.
