The switch detects when the clutch pedal is depressed and transmits the signal to the control unit. In some vehicles, this ensures that the engine cannot be started until the clutch pedal is depressed. In vehicles with automatic cruise control, the sensor ensures that the cruise control remains active when the clutch pedal is depressed.
