Description:
The fuel accumulator maintains system pressure after the engine is switched off (retaining pressure). The residual pressure prevents gas bubbles from forming in the fuel line during hot starts, as the fuel is under pressure and does not boil as quickly. Furthermore, the retaining pressure ensures a sufficient supply of fuel during cold starts. This ensures good engine starting performance.
Pressure fluctuations in the system caused by the fuel pump or similar components are also compensated for.
A defect will manifest as poor starting performance and can be detected using a pressure gauge in the fuel line.
