The master brake cylinder is the central component of a hydraulic service brake system, as it generates the necessary brake pressure. A defective master brake cylinder should therefore be replaced immediately. A defective master brake cylinder leads to a significant loss of braking performance, as usually only two instead of four wheels are braked. If you suspect a defective master brake cylinder, you should under no circumstances continue driving, but replace the cylinder immediately.
