Description:
In VDO instruments, the odometer (not the speedometer) is reduced via 2 stages, ie each drive consists of 3 gears: E1, E2 and E3.

- The driving gearE1is identical in all cases and has 12 teeth.
- The gearE2(double gear) is also identical in all cases, flat on the back (no collar) and has 48x12 teeth.
- The gearE3(double gear) has a collar on the back and is available in 9 variants with different numbers of teeth.

For repairs, we recommend replacing all 3 gears:
Please count the teeth of the E3 gear after removal and order the corresponding variant in the shop. We have only set offers for assignments where the vehicle model to gear variant is known without doubt.

Our gears are injection-molded from high-quality thermoplastic: This enables very good dimensional accuracy and an involute shape of the teeth, which run particularly gently on the partner gear.

Notes:
Buying a used speedometer may save you the trouble of repairs, but carries the risk that the gear will break quickly. Storage times and cold temperatures in particular cause additional damage to the gears.
If you have disassembled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the light bulbs. These lose noticeably in performance over the years. They are available at any car dealership and aftermarket store.

If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very sensitive. Grab the speedometer needle in the center and turn it counterclockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
