The strut mount connects the strut to the body. A defective strut mount can be recognized by a change in steering behavior. Grinding or cracking noises when steering are signs of a damaged strut mount.
Strut mounts should always be replaced in pairs (axle pairs) and whenever the shock absorbers or struts are replaced. Since strut mounts usually have a longer lifespan, separate replacement is rarely necessary.
