Description:
The joints on tie rods are subject to wear, which usually begins with a torn sleeve. Once the grease has been washed out of the axial joint or tie rod end, the ball joint will fail within a few thousand kilometers. The defective rubber sleeves or rod ends will be reported at the TÜV inspection at the latest. Depending on the Porsche model, the tie rods can consist of two or three main components. These include the axial joint as the inner ball joint in front of the steering gear and the so-called tie rod end at the outer end of the tie rod. Sometimes the axial joint and tie rod end are connected via a separate intermediate tube. Because replacing a tie rod always requires a new wheel alignment and toe-in adjustment, it may be advisable to replace the entire tie rod, depending on its condition.
