Description:
This gear is a common weak point on mechanical speedometers, but replacing it is relatively simple. Odometers that no longer work can be repaired quickly and true to the original.

Gear selection:
Mechanical VW speedometers can be fitted with either gears M11 to M25 or the VW-specific VW11 or VW12 gears:
VW11 = 11 teeth (for mileage speedometers)
VW12 = 12 teeth (for kilometer speedometers)

Installation location:
The gear is located at the end of the odometer roller. It is driven by a worm gear.

Production:
The gear, with excellent workmanship, is made of tough, elastic thermoplastic and, thanks to complex injection molding technology, is dimensionally accurate and of high quality. Printed gears, on the other hand, often have internal stress and heat distortion, a very rough surface and are less rigid.

Note:
We advise against buying other used speedometers; it is only a matter of time before the gear breaks. Better to save twice the cost and effort and replace the gear. This way you will still have the original kilometer/mileage.

If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very sensitive. Grab the speedometer needle in the center and turn it counterclockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
