The hydraulic tappets (also known as hydros) are typical wear parts in Porsche engines. As a rule, defective hydraulic tappets are noticeable by clicking engine noises. If this clicking does not disappear after the engine has warmed up, this is a sign of a lack of oil in the hydraulic tappets.
Because the assembly costs of the valve tappets exceed their material costs, it is always advisable to replace all hydraulic tappets.
In engines with engine code letters M96.01 / M96.02 / M96.03 / M96.04 and M96.20 / M96.21 / M96.22 / M96.23 / M96.24 / M96.25 / M96.26, 24 hydraulic tappets of this type are installed.
In the engines with engine code letters M97.01 / M97.20 / M97.21 / M97.22, only 12 hydraulic tappets of this type are installed for the intake valves.
The Porsche Cayenne engines with engine code letters M48.00 / M48.50 have 32 hydraulic tappets of this type installed.
