Description:
The timing chain, along with sprockets, tensioning rails, and chain tensioner, forms the most important connection between shafts in the engine. It ensures the reliable control of the valves. Failure of any of these components can result in catastrophic engine damage. Mechanical/hydraulic chain tensioners should be regularly maintained to ensure the timing chain is always correctly tensioned. Components such as a tensioning rail, sprocket, or the chain itself should be replaced at the first sign of wear. This is also noticeable through rattling engine noises.
These components are replaced as part of regular maintenance anyway.
