Description:
Drive shafts form the connection between the wheel hub and the gearbox.
The grease-lubricated joints are protected from environmental influences by axle boots and seals. Over the years, the boots become cracked. The lubricating grease can leak out and dirt can get in and damage the joint. For this reason, the axle boots are checked during the general inspection and are often defective.
Defective joints become noticeable through cracking or grinding noises when cornering. It is advisable to replace worn drive shafts promptly to avoid consequential damage caused by the resulting vibrations.
