Description:
The ball joint connects the wheel carrier to the control arm and transmits the wheel loads to the control arm.
In many cases, the rubber boot of the ball joint fails due to dynamic stress and material embrittlement, allowing dirt and water to enter the ball joint. Therefore, ball joints should be regularly inspected for play. Ball joints should always be replaced in pairs (axle-to-axle).
You should definitely not continue driving with a defective ball joint, as the ball head can, in the worst case, detach from the socket. This means the wheel is no longer guided and can wobble unpredictably.
