Driveshafts connect the wheel hub to the transmission.
The grease-lubricated joints are protected from environmental influences by CV boots. Over the years, these boots become cracked. The grease can leak out, and dirt can damage the joint. Therefore, the CV boots are inspected during the mandatory vehicle inspection and are frequently flagged as defective.
Defective joints are noticeable through cracking or grinding noises when cornering. It is advisable to replace worn driveshafts promptly to avoid consequential damage from the resulting vibrations.
