Description:
The connecting rod, as the connection between the piston and crankshaft, is subjected to high loads.
The connecting rod is guided on the crankshaft bearing surfaces by plain bearings (connecting rod bearings).
A defective connecting rod bearing is primarily noticeable through noise (knocking, clattering), which increases with rising engine speed. If a damaged connecting rod bearing is not replaced promptly, significant consequential damage (bearing seizure) can occur, such as the destruction of the bearing surfaces on the crankshaft. Therefore, defective connecting rod bearings should be replaced immediately.
When working on the connecting rod, the connecting rod bolts and nuts should always be replaced as well.
