The connecting rod is guided on the bearing surfaces of the crankshaft with plain bearings (conrod bearings).
A defective connecting rod bearing is primarily noticeable through noise (knocking, clacking), which increases as the speed increases. If a damaged connecting rod bearing is not replaced promptly, significant consequential damage (seizing of the bearing) such as the destruction of the bearing surfaces on the crankshaft can occur.
