Description:
Engine gaskets prevent air, moisture, and dirt particles from entering the engine. They also prevent oil, coolant, and hot exhaust gases from escaping. Furthermore, the engine gaskets, or sealing rings/oil seals, prevent the various fluids in the engine from mixing unintentionally, thus keeping fuel, engine oil, and coolant separate.
Therefore, every gasket on the crankcase, cylinder head, valve cover, and crankshaft should be in perfect condition. Otherwise, oil leaks and costly consequential damage can occur.
The cylinder head gasket, in particular, can cause compression loss and, along with the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and crankshaft seals, represents a very common weak point.
