The ignition distributor for the dual ignition is a typical wear part. The timing belt, bearings, and shaft are subject to constant aging and wear. If the timing belt that drives the second ignition circuit breaks, the six ignitions will not be delivered to all cylinders, but only to one, resulting in overheating and catastrophic engine damage.
Wear on the main shaft bearing can also lead to engine damage due to the resulting metal shavings entering the engine compartment.
