Description:
The dual-mass flywheel decouples the torsional vibrations generated in the engine from the rest of the drivetrain. It increases driving comfort and prevents damage to the transmission caused by vibrations. It also serves as a contact surface for the clutch disc. When replacing the clutch, check the flywheel for grooves or cracks. Heat-discoloration indicates that the clutch has been slipping for too long.
A worn flywheel leads to jerky engagement. Vibrations or humming while driving are further indications of defective damping elements.
