Description:
Engine gaskets prevent air, moisture and dirt particles from entering the engine. They also prevent oil, coolant and hot exhaust gases from escaping from the engine. In addition, the engine gaskets and sealing rings / shaft seals prevent the individual media in the engine from mixing undesirably and thus separate fuel, engine oil and coolant from one another.
Therefore, every gasket on the crankcase, cylinder head, valve cover and crankshaft should be in perfect condition. Otherwise, oil loss and costly consequential damage can occur.
The cylinder head gasket in particular can cause loss of compression and, along with the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket and crankshaft sealing rings, is a very common weak point.
