Description:
The 4-component gear is a common source of failure in Motometer odometers of various models. The affected drives are installed worldwide in many vehicles of European, Japanese, and American brands, including BMW motorcycles.
The drive consists of 4 gears:
- The driving gearE1is identical for all and has 12 teeth (for VDO and Motometer)
- GearMM2(double gear) in 4 variants (MM2, MM2c, MM2d, MM2e)
- GearMM3(double gear) in 6 variants (MM3, MM3b, MM3c, MM3d, MM3e, MM3f)
- GearMM4(double gear) in 5 variants (MM4, MM4b, MM4c, MM4e, MM4f)

Notes:
We stock a wide variety of speedometer gears for Motometer, VDO, and other speedometers and instruments. Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine the exact combination (vehicle model to gear variant) for every model. However, we have separate offers in our shop for the most common combinations.
Buying a used speedometer might save you the cost of repair, but it carries the risk that the gear will break soon.
Storage periods and cold temperatures are particularly damaging to the gears. Furthermore, repairing your speedometer will preserve your original mileage reading!
If you have already disassembled the speedometer, it is also advisable to replace the bulbs. These lose a noticeable amount of brightness over the years. They are available at any car dealership and auto parts store.

If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very delicate. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it counterclockwise. Pull gently while doing so. Friction is all that holds the needle on the shaft.
