About the Porsche 911 F-Model: Technical Data and History
The Porsche 911 ("Elfer") is the epitome of the brand. The original model, known today as the F-Model, was presented at the IAA in 1963 and marked a major leap in development. The design came from Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, who paid attention to a high recognition value and a similarity to the predecessor model Porsche 356 .
Technical Highlights of the F-Model
- Original designation: Porsche 901 (had to be changed to 911 due to Peugeot).
- Body: Initially only available as a Coupé , later also as a Targafrom 1967 onwards.
- Chassis: The most important innovation was the chassis with front struts and a rear semi-trailing arm suspension.
- Ignition Lock: The special feature of the left-hand ignition lock was adopted from racing.
Engine and Model Variants
The F-model was distinguished by its air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine in the rear. The initial output of 130 hp was steadily increased over the years.
The original model was offered in various versions, which differed in engine and equipment:
- 911 L (Luxury): The base model from 1968.
- 911 T (Touring): The touring version.
- 911 E and the powerful 911 S (with up to 190 hp). The pinnacle of the series was the Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 (with 210 hp), presented in 1972 and limited to 500 units, which is now an extremely sought-after collector's item. Here you will find the right spare parts for the maintenance and restoration of all model variants.
