Description:
The thermostat controls the cooling circuit of the engine oil and thus doses the cooling of the air-cooled engine. This ensures a short cold running phase while the engine is fully cooled under load, as the oil is guided through the oil cooler or the cooling coil.
If the thermostat is defective or stuck, the engine will only run with one of the two oil circuits. The result is unnecessarily long warm-up phases or overheating of the engine (oil burns).
It is therefore important to replace a stuck thermostat early so that the temperature regulation of the engine oil can function properly again.
The thermostat housing is also called the regulator housing in Porsche circles.
