Description:
This two-component gear is a common source of failure in VDO odometers of various vehicles. The affected VDO drives are installed worldwide in many models of numerous European, Japanese, American, and Australian brands.

The drive consists of two gears:
1. A standard gear in the variantsE15, E20, E25(15, 20, or 25 teeth)
2. A disc gear which varies in the number of teeth AND the disc size.

The disc gear is available in the following 8 variants:

12-K= 12 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
15-K= 15 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
15-M= 15 teeth onMmedium disc (disc diameter ~17.8mm)
15-G= 15 teeth onGlarge disc (disc diameter ~21.8mm)
16-K= 16 teeth onKSmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
16-M= 16 teeth onMMedium disc (disc diameter ~17.8mm)
17-K= 17 teeth onKSmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)

Notes:
We stock a wide variety of speedometer gears for VDO, Motometer, and other speedometers and instruments. Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine the exact combination (vehicle model to gear variant) for every model; however, we have separate offers in our shop for the most common combinations.
Buying a used speedometer might save you the cost of repair, but it carries the risk that the gear will break soon. Storage and cold temperatures are particularly damaging to the gears.
If you have already disassembled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the bulbs. These lose a noticeable amount of brightness over the years. They are available at any car dealership or auto parts store.

If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very delicate. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it counterclockwise, pulling gently. Friction is all that holds the needle on the shaft.
