Technical data of the Porsche 912

The Porsche 912 was produced from 1965 to 1969 to create a more affordable alternative to the 911. It replaced the 356 and used its proven four-cylinder engine, which significantly reduced the sales price at market launch to approximately DM 16,000 .

Features and equipment

  • Design: Similarity to the 911, but simplified equipment. Interior: Between 1965 and 1967, initially only three instead of the usual five round instruments were fitted. Fuel economy: The 912 was characterized by significantly lower fuel consumption than the 911. Model updates and the 912 E: During its production run from 1965 to 1969, the vehicle received continuous improvements, including: Optional five-speed gearbox. The popular Targa version with a folding rear window.
  • Wheelbase extension and interior modernization.

In the 1976 model year, the Porsche 912 E was introduced exclusively for the US market. This was based on the 911 G-model and was intended to fill the gap left by the discontinuation of the VW-Porsche 914 . The 912 E already featured the galvanized body of the G-model.
