Technical data & success story of the Porsche 997

The Porsche 997 was introduced in 2004 as the successor to the 996 and ushered in a more historically inspired design language that is still used today. Technologically, it was a major step forward:

Innovations and Engine Options

  • Engines (Gen. 1): At launch, the Carrera 3.6 (325 hp) and the Carrera S 3.8 (355 hp) were available. Later, the Turbo (with a Mezger engine) and the track-focused GT3followed.
  • Drivetrain: New was the optional dual-clutch transmission (PDK). The all-wheel-drive models (Carrera 4/Targa) had a wider track.
  • Chassis: Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) was standard in the S version.
  • Generation 2: From 2009, the switch was made to direct injection (DFI), which increased the power output to up to 385 hp (3.8L).

Body and Equipment

The 997 was available in the body styles Coupé, Cabriolet (with electrically retractable roof) and Targa (with retractable panoramic glass roof).
