Description:
A damaged or worn double ignition distributor can quickly have the fatal consequences of engine damage.

The first risk lies in the old belt installed, which drives the secondary ignition circuit. This belt is exposed to heat, moisture and possibly worn bearings and ozone over the years, so this wear and aging can cause it to crack.
In this situation, the secondary circuit, which is no longer driven, fires every 6 times on one cylinder, causing severe overheating damage to the affected and adjacent cylinders and cylinder heads.

Another risk that can lead to damage to the engine due to the double ignition distributor lies in the bearings of the main shaft. In contrast to the generously sized main bearings, the axial and especially the pressure bearing is a sensitive point. Axial bearings/thrust bearings that are not pressed in correctly lead to the shaft running in, which consequently results in fine hard metal abrasion. Since this bearing of the main shaft is lubricated by engine oil, chips and abrasion enter the oil circuit.
Such damage can even be seen with new double ignition distributors if the axial and thrust bearings (one unit) are minimally misaligned.
In the case of double ignition distributors in which only the belt or bearing has already been replaced, the rate of this damage is even higher, as the main shaft is often not corrected and abrasion occurs after just a few thousand km.

As part of the professional overhaul of the original BOSCH double ignition distributor The following work is carried out:

+ Reconditioning and cleaning of the housing inside and outside by mechanical ultrasonic cleaning, wet blasting and compaction

+ Replacing the drive belt with an original Continental belt

+ Main shaft correction depending on the running/damage pattern by nitriding/hardening/grinding/straightening + correction of the bearing seats in the event of misalignment or damage

+ Cleaning and greasing of all moving parts with special grease + Surface treatment in case of damage

+ Assembly and measurement of all components using a measuring device for length, play, preload, pressure

+ Compress drive pinion

+ Functional and quality testing of the mechanics as well as testing the Hall sensor for signal quality
