Description:
The connecting rod, which connects the piston and crankshaft, is subjected to high loads
The connecting rod is guided on the bearing surfaces of the piston pin with plain bearings (connecting rod bushings).
Defective connecting rod bushings are primarily noticeable through noise (knocking, clacking), which increases with increasing speed. If a damaged connecting rod bearing or bushing is not replaced promptly, significant consequential damage (seizing of the bearing) can occur, such as the destruction of the bearing surfaces on the crankshaft and the piston pin. Therefore, defective bearing bushes should be replaced immediately.
When working on the connecting rod, the connecting rod bolts and nuts should always be changed.
