Description:
The joints on track rods are subject to wear, which usually starts with a torn boot. Once the grease has been washed out of the axial joint or tie rod end, the ball joint fails within a few thousand kilometers. The defective rubber sleeves or rod ends will be rejected by the TÜV at the latest. Because changing the track rod always requires a new wheel alignment with toe-in adjustment, we recommend replacing the entire track rod depending on its condition. These axial joints are an optimized construction in "turbo design". This is characterized by the play-free ball joint. True to the original, the Carrera models on the 911 G model and 964 had a joint fork with a rubber bushing. Although this provides more comfort, it is less direct in its steering behavior. The 930 turbo and the later 993 Carrera/turbo models have a play-free axial joint as standard.
