Brake drums are among the most important wearing parts in vehicles, as failure of the brake system can have serious consequences. Brake drums generally wear much more slowly than brake shoes, but should still be inspected at regular intervals.
Extended brake pedal or brake lever travel and significantly reduced braking performance are usually signs of a defective brake drum.
The minimum thickness is usually stamped on the brake drum. If the wall thickness of the drum falls below this minimum, it should be replaced immediately.
