Piston rings are mounted on the piston in the corresponding grooves, seal the combustion chamber and enable heat to be dissipated from the piston to the cylinder wall. In addition, the oil scraper ring ensures the necessary and uniform lubrication.
Damaged piston sealing rings become noticeable through a lack of compression and the associated loss of performance. This wear can be quickly diagnosed with a pressure loss test. Increased oil consumption and noise in the engine are further symptoms of defective piston rings.
Defective piston rings should be replaced immediately, as broken rings can damage the cylinder raceways.
