With hydraulically operated clutches, the master cylinder is mounted on the clutch pedal. It passes on the pedal force in the form of hydraulic pressure to actuate the clutch. A defect results in internal and external leaks. This can result in hydraulic fluid leaking and the clutch no longer being able to be activated.
