17-M gear for counters VDO speedometer instrument cluster disc gear
Description:
This 2-component gear ratio is a common source of error on VDO odometers in a wide variety of vehicles. The affected VDO drives are installed worldwide in many models of many European, Japanese, American and Australian brands.
The drive consists of 2 gears:
1. A standard gear in the variantsE15, E20, E25(15, 20 or 25 teeth)
2. A disc gear with a varying number of teeth AND disc size.
The disc gear is available in the following 8 variants:
12-K= 12 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
15-K= 15 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
15-M= 15 teeth onMmedium disc (disc diameter ~17.8mm)
15-G= 15 teeth onGlarge disc (disc diameter ~21.8mm)
16-K= 16 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
16-M= 16 teeth onMmedium disc (disc diameter ~17.8mm)
17-K= 17 teeth onKsmall disc (disc diameter ~15.5mm)
17-M= 17 teeth onMmedium disc (disc diameter ~17.8mm)
Before purchasing, please remove the instrument cluster and check the gears to find out which version is right for you.
Use the search function in the shop and look for the gear designations (e.g. 12-K or E15).
You can find out which gear you are purchasing with this offer from the offer title.
The photo may show the front and back; the offer includes 1 gear.
Notes:
We have a wide variety of speedometer gears for VDO, Motometer and other speedometers and instruments in our range. Unfortunately, the exact combination (vehicle model to gear variant) cannot be determined for every model; however, we have separate offers in our shop for the most well-known and common combinations.
Buying a used speedometer may save you the trouble of repairs, but carries the risk that the gear will break quickly. Storage times and cold temperatures in particular cause additional damage to the gears.
If you have ever disassembled the speedometer, we also recommend replacing the light bulbs. These lose noticeably in performance over the years. They are available from any car dealership and accessories store.
Advantages:
Our gears are injection-molded from high-quality thermoplastic: This enables very good dimensional accuracy and an involute shape of the teeth, which run particularly gently on the partner gear.
If you disassemble the speedometer beforehand, please note that the speedometer needle shaft is very sensitive. Grip the speedometer needle in the middle and turn it counterclockwise. Pull gently. Friction is all that keeps the needle on the shaft.
