The protective tubes of the pushrods are eaten away by corrosion over the years and the rubber rings often harden. This results in oil loss and the risk of dirt in the engine oil.
Rusted or leaking pushrod protection tubes should therefore be replaced immediately.
Replacing the tubes, including the rubber rings around the pushrods, is standard during a comprehensive engine overhaul.
