Description:
The thermostat controls the cooling circuit of the engine oil and thus doses the cooling of the air -cooled engine. A short cold running phase is guaranteed while the engine is fully cooled under load, since the oil is guided by the oil cooler or the cooling tube snake.
If the thermostat is defective or hanging, the engine only runs with one of the two oil circuits. The result is unnecessarily long warm phases or overheating the engine (oil burned).
It is therefore important to replace a hanging thermostat at an early stage so that the temperature control of the engine oil can work perfectly again.
The thermostat housing is also mentioned in Porsche circles.
