Porsche 928 spare parts

Technical data

The Porsche 928 was produced from 1977 to 1995 and is a Gran Turismo car with a V8 front engine and rear-wheel drive. The transaxle-drive sports car was considered the top-of-the-line model to replace the Porsche 911. Just like most Porsche models from the time, the body of the 928 was significantly designed by Harm Lagaay.

Engine and prices

Instead of the air-cooled 911 engine in the rear, a water-cooled eight-cylinder front engine was provided. The transaxle concept, which connected the front engine to the rear drive axle, was also fitted to the Porsche 924 and 944. The V8 engine with a 90 cylinder bank angle was a completely new development. The block and cylinder heads were made of an aluminum-silicon alloy and the pistons ran directly on the cylinder bore surface without liners. One camshaft per cylinder bank was driven by a timing belt and the overhead valves were operated by bucket tappets. The engine and transmission were connected by a rigid tube with an inner shaft, the design of which provided greater noise comfort compared to contemporary transaxle models.

The 928's suspension increased driving safety and made handling more predictable. This was achieved by a calculated compliance of the rubber bearings of the control arms. The axle is also known as the "Weissach axle". Despite being developed in Weissach, the name is said to stand for "angle-setting, self-stabilizing balancing characteristic."

The Porsche 928's body shape was highly modern in its day, with its round flip-up headlights and enormously rounded collision-elastic rear end, and was considered timeless during its production years, so the design remained virtually unchanged until 1995. The C-pillar recessed at the rear, as well as the curved rear windows, were special features of the 928 that polarized on presentation. The design served as inspiration for other automakers' models in the years that followed, such as the 1983 Zagato Zeta 6 and the Rayton Fissore Gold Shadow.
