Description:
On the one hand, engine seals prevent air, moisture and dirt particles from entering the engine. On the other hand, the seals prevent oil, coolant and hot exhaust gases from escaping from the engine. In addition, the engine seals or sealing rings/Simmerings prevent the individual media in the engine from mixing undesirably and thus separate fuel, engine oil and coolant from each other.
Therefore, every seal on the crankcase, cylinder head, valve cover and crankshaft should be in perfect condition. Otherwise, oil loss and costly consequential damage can occur.
The cylinder head gasket in particular can cause loss of compression and is a very common weak point alongside the valve cover gasket, the oil pan gasket and the crankshaft sealing rings.
